Thank God I am not Trump's PR person, and can we get past anthem protests and move towards some uniting solutions?

Here it is Sunday, and the weekend escape from the grind of the week is now being thrust to new politicized heights. Kneeling or standing, angst or no angst. ARGH!!! The most thankless job on planet earth may not be a roll of toilet paper, it is very likely being Trump’s PR team. Whether you like his politics or not, his inability to simply be ‘presidential’ and not get dragged into the street/gutter to fight on every single topic, is beyond tiring. God only knows, how you try and approach someone who simply cannot under any circumstance be quiet and cannot help but lay verbal landmines everywhere people walk. I know some Trump fan friends will say I am siding with the media, well, I am not, I am just tired. Please Donald, just be quiet, for once. Put the phone down for a few days, go have some private time with Melania and just let society handle this anthem protest issue. Your brand of leadership is to pour gas and fire into the mix, because you HAD to have a tak...

Dear ESPN, FoxSports, Sports Illustrated, etc.

Dear ESPN, FoxSports, SportsIllustrated, etc. Why are you ruining sports journalism?   I get newspapers are in decline as people (like myself) have long ago switched to consuming media online, and don’t read (much) hard-copy print anymore (mainly due to the timeliness and delivery delay issue).   I realize I do not fit your ideal advertising demographic anymore, as I am nearly 50, male, married, employed full time in the I.T. industry and fairly loyal to the brands I have bought from over the past 25 years of my life, as long as their products don’t take a huge downturn in quality.   But the interesting aspect of this is the irony of this note, I have been a loyal ESPN viewer since it came on the air, and now I am finding myself hoping someone better comes along because the product I loyally consumed for so long has really turned into crap.   And I possess the means to purchase said alternative! No, I am actually not referring to the particular controver...

Photographing the Night Sky and ...what is the new light in the sky? Star going nova perhaps?

Image
Okay, I held back one of my more interesting bits of photo taking in Moab until I could look at the photos a bit more. This is only for the real nerds out there. What I am posting is 2 pictures of the Big Dipper I took on my allnighter in Arches NP. There will be a third picture where I highlight the dipper and the interesting location as well. These pictures were taken in sequence, and each exposure lasted 30 seconds. So, the camera was stationary, but obviously the eart h rotates and you can subtly tell the difference when you have the full resolution images and view them quickly back to back. The fourth image I will try to post is an animated gif file to loop so you can see the movement. Anyhow, the real question is...what is the light which appeared suddenly in the second image? No, I don't think it is a UFO. If it is, it must be from the future, no aliens. :-) I ruled out a normal satellite, those show as solid lines, like meteors. Obv...

Health Care Debate (Part 2) Who's in charge here?

Okay, if your insomnia wasn’t cured from part 1 on Health Care, I dared to keep going with part 2.   Again, these are just my voter/citizen thoughts on the issue so far, and obviously I am not an expert in the insurance or health care field.   Like many, I am trying to decide where to place my support in solving this crisis.   My view is dynamic, changing and hopefully growing in knowledge, albeit as a informed citizen, not active politician writing the new Health Care law. In part 1 I asked “what is health care” in your terms.   We can’t agree on a solution without a context that we are talking about the same things.   If we can agree on the idea of basic care as a moral right, rising to the point of legislating it, but I would still contend it doesn’t need to go in to the Constitution.   Basic care for all, I can agree.   We need to agree on the scope of basic care, but I think we can find those boundaries much easier than the other more com...

Health Care Debate (Part I) What is 'Health care?'

Of late, I have remained fairly dormant when it comes to posts which pertain to politics.   I know myself and many friends are still suffering from TRump whine/gloat fatigue and I certainly try to NOT contribute to its continued presence in my friends FB feeds.   But as the GOP failed in their first attempt to repeal Obamacare, delaying a vote on a terrible piece of legislation, I wanted to demonstrate how complex this debate will (well maybe 'needs to') be as we move forward. We do have a health care coverage crisis in our country.   I think that is an area where we can mostly all agree.  I don't believe Obamacare is the answer, I wholeheartedly believe socialized medicine is even worse of an idea, and I will state here that I also don't agree with the recently proposed GOP legislation.   It is so easy to simply say "I support Obamacare", or "I support repealing Obamacare."  The problem is those statements honestly have no substance.  If ...
