Doing a J.J. Abrams reboot casting of Star Trek: The Next Generation

I saw a link online where they discussed the idea of casting a JJ Abrams reboot of Star Trek: The Next Generation.  After pondering some of the people they discussed, I chose to take it upon myself to try and choose my own choices for the roles.  I tried to imagine what I would do with a reboot and choose accordingly.  In many cases, I struggled to make a clear choice, I had several candidates.  The one certain casting which I think is absolutely perfect is Jon Hamm from Mad Men as Commander William Riker. He fits the bill of being handsome, a bit unstable, and can rock the beard.

So, feel free to contribute your own ideas and choices. Without further adieu:


Captain Jean Luc Picard - Ben Kinsley or Stanley Tucci
 Sir Ben would be almost perfect I think.
 









Commander William Riker - Jon Hamm
 Just perfect.

 



















Counselor Troi - Morena Baccarin
Morena, known well in the SciFi genre for Firefly, Stargate SG1 and V, would be great.  All the aliens would naturally be either rendered distracted by her looks, or spend countless hours trying to figure out why she looks so familiar to them.  Morena as Troi...done.

 




















Worf - Shemar Moore or Richard T Jones
 Worf and Data were the hardest to cast I thought. 

 

















Data - John McGinley / Kevin Pollack / Colin Ferguson
 I like the quirky off idea of Data, and these actors would all fit the bill.

 


















Dr. Crusher - Elizabeth Mitchell / Sarah Rafferty
Tough call.  I like both of them. 
 



























Geordi Laforge- Anthony Mackie / Alfonso Riberio
(OR better yet...curve ball...make Laforge female and cast Salli Richardson-Whitfield)

This one I must admit, I thought about the genius of Ronald D. Moore in changing some of the characters on Battlestar.  Imagine Laforge as Jordi, a female.  Yep, now Salli is PERFECT for that role.  I like the new dynamics you can have with this.  

 




















Wesley Crusher - Josh Hutcherson
He was in RV and some other films.  He can play the pesky kid role well even though he is now 20.  Wesley did go to Starfleet (aka college) near the end, so ...

My Religion, Unplugged (Part 3)

For my third topic, I chose to talk about the Cultural Christian problem. This really is one of the lesser problems facing the church today, but still something which deserves some discussion. To me there are 2 facets to this issue, one deals with Christians, the other more with the church itself. Neither of these are long, detailed topics, but just things I would like to see change. Have you heard the joke about Baptists and fishing? It goes like this: Take a Baptist fishing and he'll drink all your beer. Take 2 Baptists fishing and they won't touch your beer. For some, sadly church is all about being seen and giving the perception of being a good Christian. These folks care far more about their appearances than the actual relationship they have with God. This is not really a church problem per se, just the result of our society which lately places a higher value on style over substance. Obituary For Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults are in charge not children) His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
