Why not try to predict the 2016 football season?

Every pre-season magazine, website and sports show tries to predict the results of the upcoming season, so why not have a fan try it. I don’t quite have the volume of data they do, but I can recall what I saw last year, read what changes have been brought to the table and try to Magic 8-Ball the end results.

So, here are my pretty much certain to be wrong predictions for the 2016 season, NCAA and NFL. Why not post your guesses in the comments or on your own page?

NCAA

Top 4 to make the college football playoff: Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson. Hard to predict any of them failing. All but Bama return their QBs, many key players and have a reasonable schedule path to the playoff. Of course, if any of the QBs is hurt, or a key player or two goes down, all bets are off.

Rest of Top 10 in no particular order (again pending no major injuries): FSU, LSU, Michigan, Iowa and Notre Dame.

The rest of the Top 25? How about Houston, Stanford, Oregon, TCU, Miami, Ole Miss, Louisville, Boise State, UGA, Tennessee, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Washington, Va Tech and USF.

Guessing the Gators will just miss. Teams oh so close to Top 25? Washington State, Cincinnati and San Diego State. Just barely educated guesses on those.

Teams which will most disappoint their fan base? Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn in the SEC. Ga Tech, Duke in the ACC, Michigan State in the B1G, Baylor (duh) in the Big 12, and Arizona State, Arizona and Oregon in the Pac 12. I don’t see a Pac-12 team winning 10. Stanford and Oregon maybe 9, with a chance at 10, but I don’t see it.

Heisman Top 5? Watson (Clem), Fournette (LSU), McCaffrey (Stanford), Dalvin Cook (FSU) and Nick Chubb (UGA-if he plays all 12 games, I think Kirby may not play him as much though). Mayfield (Okl) is my replacement for Chubb if he doesn’t play all 12.

Top Freshman? UGA will have 2, QB Jacob Eason and TE Isaac Nauta. Shane Buechele QB, Texas; Lavonta Taylor (DB) FSU and Jalen Hurts QB, Bama.

Favorite Names? (1) Jake Butt, TE, Michigan (2) Edgar Poe, WR, Army (3) Chris Blewitt, K, Pitt

Coaches looking for new homes after 2016? Hazell (Purdue), Holgorsen (WV), Malzahn (Aub), Doeren (NC State), Sumlin (TAM) and sadly if they don’t win at least 7 games: Charlie Strong, Texas. I sure hope Strong makes it though.

NFL

PHIL 8-8, WASH 7-9, NYG 6-10, DAL 5-11
NFC CENTRAL
GBAY 11-5, MINN 10-6, CHIC 7-9, DET 4-12
NFC SOUTH
CAR 12-4, TBAY 8-8, NO 8-8, ATL 7-9
NFC WEST
AZ 12-4, SEA 11-5, LA 5-11, SF 5-11

NFC Champ? Seattle or Green Bay

AFC EAST
NE 11-5, BUFF 6-10, NYJ 6-10, MIA 5-11
AFC CENTRAL
PITT 11-5, CIN 10-6, BALT 9-7, CLEVE 6-10
AFC SOUTH
HOU 9-7, JAX 8-8, IND 8-8, TENN 7-9
AFC WEST

Champ? Steelers, Packers, Seahawks...I will say Steelers.

Ones I am least sure about? The Panthers could go 9-7, maybe the Vikings win the NFC Central. I could see the Colts got 5-11, but then the Jags woulc have to be 10-6 or so. Nope. Can go with that. Sticking with my records above.
