Okay, in looking over my blogs, they are all so serious. So, I felt like a needed a more light-hearted fare as a change of pace. A nice blog on something which didn't explore the human condition, just some fun.

So, in honor of the upcoming SuperBowl weekend, I thought I would try posting some of my favorite commercials over the years. There are far too many to do them justice, but these are the ones I can recall, and where possible, link to them.

The recent tragedy in Newtown, CT has left our country feeling almost as it did after the events of 9/11.  Feelings of profound sadness, violation, loss of innocence, senseless violence, anger at those  responsible, and even emotional numbness are seemingly common.  Certainly not to the same scale, but indeed it is very difficult to come to grips with the fact 26 people, most of them children, were murdered in cold blood, by an evil, cowardly sociopath. In times like this many in our society are left looking for some sense of direction, for cues on how they should act and feel in such a situation.  They generally are not needing to know how to act, it is more of an attempt to try and understand the big question we are all left with in a tragedy like this: why?  Why did this horrible thing happen? Health Care Debate (Part 2) Who's in charge here?

Okay, if your insomnia wasn’t cured from part 1 on Health Care, I dared to keep going with part 2.   Again, these are just my voter/citizen thoughts on the issue so far, and obviously I am not an expert in the insurance or health care field.   Like many, I am trying to decide where to place my support in solving this crisis.   My view is dynamic, changing and hopefully growing in knowledge, albeit as a informed citizen, not active politician writing the new Health Care law. In part 1 I asked “what is health care” in your terms.   We can’t agree on a solution without a context that we are talking about the same things.   If we can agree on the idea of basic care as a moral right, rising to the point of legislating it, but I would still contend it doesn’t need to go in to the Constitution.   Basic care for all, I can agree.   We need to agree on the scope of basic care, but I think we can find those boundaries much easier than the other more complex issues of advanced care.

My Religion, Unplugged (Part 3)

For my third topic, I chose to talk about the Cultural Christian problem. This really is one of the lesser problems facing the church today, but still something which deserves some discussion. To me there are 2 facets to this issue, one deals with Christians, the other more with the church itself. Neither of these are long, detailed topics, but just things I would like to see change. Have you heard the joke about Baptists and fishing? It goes like this: Take a Baptist fishing and he'll drink all your beer. Take 2 Baptists fishing and they won't touch your beer. For some, sadly church is all about being seen and giving the perception of being a good Christian. These folks care far more about their appearances than the actual relationship they have with God. This is not really a church problem per se, just the result of our society which lately places a higher value on style over substance.
